Hi all!
I recently moved from Alberta to Saskatchewan and decided to start a coop to keep myself busy in a new province!
I have been reading through the various threads and learning lots this past month from everyone's posts.
I started off incubating chicken, pheasant, guniea fowl, and duck eggs.
Needless to say, I was extremely excited and probably bit off more than I could chew.
So far everything has been going well, although my hatch rates are still less then impressive.
I had nine pheasants (half are a week older than the other half). I had no idea that pecking order was established so young, the oldest have just turned a month old. They had pecked a younger one to death, and so I separated them by age.
I have other eggs hatching and I am going to need some brooder space,
I would like to combine some of the birds I have so I have an available brooder for the new chicks that are due....
Could any of these birds be combined right now? Or would they likely kill each other?
I am not worried about combining them in the coop when they're ready to go in there, the coop is huge and has lots of room for many different birds. But brooders are smaller and a tight space... not ideal for birds that might not get along.
Here is what I have currently
5 Pheasants that are 1 month old
3 pheasant's that are 3 weeks old
5 Pheasants that are 1 week old
5 Guniea fowl, just over 2 weeks old
2 Ducklings, a week old.
Currently all of these are in their own separate brooders except for the ducklings and the 5 new baby pheasants. They all hatched on the same day and I put them in the same brooder and they all cuddle up and love each other. However the ducklings create a huge mess and get splash water around everywhere, and so I think its time I take the pheasants out of that brooder as the wet conditions aren't ideal for them.
Any suggestions for combining any of these? I am out of brooders and need to make some space!?
