Newbie from Wyoming

hello everyone, I am Gretchen and I have always wanted to raise chickens. Today after my daughter (20yrs) said she wanted to also we put in our order for our new flock. We will be getting 4 Production Reds this next week. We are researching on how to get a nice coop for them since we live at 7200ft and we have long winters. I think we are goingto go the converted dog house and a long outdoor run in the back yard. I need to keep them away from our two little lap dogs so will be working the next few months on their coop.

Thanks for the welcome. I am rather excited. I was wondering if there is any others from Wyoming (or cold weather climates) that can give me some advise on how to keep them warm in the winter since we get rather cold here (sometimes in the -30 range)

found a dog house for my chickens on freecycle. Now to get it home without hubby seeing it. LOL
