Hi! My husband and I are getting ready to start our flock of "backyard ladies". Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for where to buy pullets. We're going to have to wait for the snow to melt and the land to dry out before we can build the coop but I'm starting to do my research for buying pullets.

I can't wait to get started!

You might check with your state's thread in the "Where am I? Where are You!" forum and see if any locals have pullets. Otherwise, I would check any local farm/feed stores to see if they are getting chicks this spring. Good luck!!

Do you know what breed you want? Some can be identified as male /female early - such as sex links. Other breeds like silkies may need to be 4-5 mos. before a breeder can tell with any certainty.

If you buy young chicks - be prepared to have some roosters in the mix.
