Newbie here - hope I’m in the right place!

Hello jherrera59
Welcome to BYC.
Doubtless the chickens will be only to eager to help out in your vegetable garden.:D

Hahaha yes, so I’ve been told I’ve pondered making a separate bed just for them but I’m sure they’ll want my favorite veggies no matter what season it is! Or probably more like whatever bed I DON’T want them in is the one they’ll be in the most! Lol Should be “interesting”

Hello, and welcome! You probably live near to me, maybe? You could join our Arizona states thread here and chat with us to get some of your question's answered. Some of us even hatch egg's from our flock's that are already accustomed to the heat here.

Hiya :frow
Nice to meet you!
:welcome
We live in similar climates with similar predators. Glad you’re going to fully inclose your run~remember to wire the top. My run is fully enclosed with a a 6’ wooden fence around my yard. (helps with coyotes and stray dogs). Hawks are my largest concern. Provide hawk hideouts throughout your garden/yard.
The heat can kill. shade..shade and more shade lol. I spent the best 20.00$ of my life (chickens too). Purchased misters at Home Depot and what a tremendous difference. We get triple digits here and in the peek of the heat I turn on the misters and it drops the temperature in the run. With shade from a tree and the misters on its where I go to cool down when I’m gardening.
Chickens expell heat through their feet so mud puddles in the shade are awesome. A frozen Pepsi bottle inside the waterers are cool (pun). Watermelon is a awesome treat for hydration. I hope you enjoy your chickens. Mine are my backyard buddies and such a joy! Best wishes

Wow! Great info to have! Thank you so much. I was already contemplating a mister system and they’ll be under a big eucalyptus tree we have but we’re going to shade most of the area anyway. And yesss! Cover the top as well especially after a hawk swooped down and snagged a dove out of that very tree the other day I’m having a little trouble navigating one here dangit, so I hope this goes thru haha

I'm in the Yuma area but I've found the Phoenix area has more forums like this, thank you!
