Hi all, I'm new to this website and I have a few questions. We are new to raising Turkey poults, my boys are doing it for a 4H project. We have 5 bronze turkey poults and 1 white breasted turkey poult. My question is, is it ok for my boys to feed them snails, slugs, worms, etc? They are 3 weeks old. Also, one of our bronze poults injured it's leg, it looks like the femur is snapped, I read that some people made slings but unfortunately I did catch it right away and it's been a few days. Should I just put him down? Here's a pic of its leg. Help! Any advice would be great!

Is he in pain? Does he eat and drink normally? Does he act like a normal young turkey? There are a lot of chickens and other birds that have had a leg amputated and get along just fine. They adjust. If you do a search you can find other one legged birds on BYC. Most have lost a limb due to savage predator attacks yet survived and get around well. Your baby didn't have to suffer from horrific damage and stress. He should be all the stronger for it.

I cannot pass a death sentence on him. Maybe others will have different views.

Thank you for your advice. He is eating, drinking and pooping normal. He can't really get around on the one leg but he does hobble to food & water. Most of the time he lays down. I'll look into the amputation.
