BYC Café

Yesterday hubby cut up some wood. I was safety assistant and stacker. Today we'll haul the wood to the woodpiles. Eventually, we'll split it, probably in October/November.

The farmers are cutting the corn now. Because we haven't had any rain, they are not making a mess of the dirt roads, which are packed as hard as concrete. Because we haven't had any rain, they are making CLOUDS of dust. Pea soup dust. I don't know if that's a term, but it describes the situation well.
I can only imagine how bad it is. Just me on foot created enough of a dust cloud when the wind made it overtake me that I had to bury my face in my T-shirt.
It must be horrendous with heavy machinery and at scale.

Good Morning,

Coffee is ready and it is so very ready....spring time, the sun rises early 5:15am, birds are singing, and so is the traffic, the dusty wind and we are heading for 35C = 95F. We have not had any rain for a few months now and plenty of dusty wind every day.

Yesterday our state government declared a fire bans state wide because we are currently having 36 bush fires. Also advised not to use power tools as the spark will also cause fire.

Last year and half of this year we had endless rain, so much mud and flooding I am so not want to see anymore rain, but now I will need to pray🙏🙏 for rain🌧️🌧️.

This early morning, I watered my garden & the chicken runs getting everything ready for a cook weather day. I don't remember what it feels like to be in this weather of 35C = 95F as rain/mud is all that I remember.

I caught up with all the posts here, and I hope that my grandhen Minty that survived Salpingitis will go on to live a long life like all your hens here.

Tiny rooster is depressed because he is alone in the yard, so yesterday I let my flock out (except the bantam) with him, he was so over joy! It is a big risk or imminent infection from him to them. I can not bring myself to soup him, he is strong, bouncing, singing, no symptoms of his previous ill health and living his tiny life with bouncing energy. I am closing 1 eye and take 1 step at a time on this.

Have a great day all.❤️

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

I am much more confident that I have 3 boys and 3 girls in Astrid's batch. But one of those girls is a dom white so I will sell her next spring with a black cockerel I will keep through the winter. He will also be used to stand over my 3 black pullets starting mid-March. I will hatch out another dozen eggs from them and hope the god of pullets smiles on me next year.

I will be bringing the current dom white cockerel, 2 black cockerels and (gasp!) my absolutely stunning ermine cockerel to the swap this Sunday. The ermine is serious eye candy. The 2 ermine girls have chosen him and roost with him every night. He reminds me a lot of Fabio in his behavior but without the assholery. But I have 2 more ermine boys from Astrid along with a dominant white. These boys will be the flock roosters. I hope they can all get along.

I can't! I just can't. I'll wait until spring. He is just too good! He is also running off the rapists. I need him to keep the horny toads in line. And did I mention his crow!? What a fantastic crow!... (I think I'm in love)
