Hi All! I want to get chicks.
I had a red sex link before but she was and adult when I got her. Well, she found us.
She was in our neighbor's drive way. I happened to own a duck at the time, and we took her in.
They both passed last year and I miss them both so much!!!
So I'm getting a flock of four chicks soon.
I just need to know what meds to have on hand.
I know niacin, and electrolytes, and Neosporin.
What are the name brands to buy?
And what else do I need to buy medicine wise?
Please let me know.
Thank you.

I use BluKote for picking injuries, hydrocortisone, you'll need amprolium for coccidiosis (hasn't happened to me though) you can have it on hand or buy it if you need it. Vaseline is good for protecting combs and wattles against frostbite and for pasty butt. Good luck with your chickens!

Chicks don't need niacin, you're thinking ducklings.

Only issue with buying medicines ahead of time is expiration dates, so I don't tend to keep too many things on hand that expire easily. Best things to have on hand for chicks would probably be poultry nutri-drench (or chick vitamin/probiotic/electrolyte type mixes), just to help get them through the stress of shipping and moving, and maybe Corid (if not vaccinated for coccidiosis/using medicated feed).

Your right, I've had ducks for years. I've never had chickens until last year, and she was an adult.
I didn't think about shelf-life. Thank you!
I will definitely look into Corid, as I plan on feeding them organic starter crumble.
