Hello Everyone!!
I'm a newbie here. Very green.. I just started reading books, the first book I'm reading mentioned this group. So I did some surfing and thought this was petty good place to start reading and asking questions..

I have no chickens, no coop, nothing. I'm doing a lot of research on the type of chickens I'd like to have. (I'd like to start out with 2-3 and not very big) I'm not sure of a coop yet.(below is a type I may like)

The coop I'd like to have is something that will work with me being in a wheelchair. I am looking at one, it's a Chicken Coop Ohmaha. The bottom opens up and I can roll under it and get closer, the nest boxes, the doors open and I won't have to reach over. The reviews I have seen have been good.

So many of my questions may be how best I can use a coop, how can I raise chickens from a wheelchair? Are there things I may need to do to make it easier for me to take care of them?

I live in Ohio, near the PA boarder, so our winters are cold, snowy and not so snowy at times. The last couple of years the winters here give a burst of artic blast for a few days, and sometimes we get a good couple of day of snow. Then like this past winter we had hardly any snow. This year was an odd winter. Our summers the last 2 years were pretty hot.

Below is the coop I might be very interested in.

So any advice sent my way I will take. I'm also taking notes.

Thank you in advance to everyone!!

Hi, and welcome to BYC! So excited that you're here! :wee

What would you say your budget is for the chicken coop? I would recommend that if you could possibly get help to build the chicken coop, you could design a great coop that will accommodate your needs. You could also possibly get a shed and remodel it for a chicken coop, as well as adding touches that might make it easier for you to get in/out. I personally wouldn't recommend the coop you're looking at, as pre-fabs like that tend to be of low quality and can easily fall apart, as well as not being ideal for the chickens. Best of luck, and I hope everything works out! 😊

Welcome to BYC! For someone who is wheelchair bound, a coop with lots of height that you can get into would be a good idea. Maybe something custom built.
And of course you will want to put a lot of thought into this as it will need to be something fitting for both you and the chickens.

Starburst,
The budget at this moment isn't a lot, still in the very early stages. Plus, the area I'd like to have the chickens will be next to our garage and shed. I'm still working this out in my head. I told my husband I will need something I can roll on, like bricks to get to the area, because it gets muddy. Thank you very much for the possible idea of a shed.

Chicken,
Thank you very much!! Custom built I'll look at this idea too. Thanks
