Be sure the dogs know how to leave the chickens alone before you let them free range. It can be heartbreaking when the family pet hurts or kills the poultry. (I only mention it as a precaution.)

Welcome Jeri! I'm a newbie too. BYC has been an invaluable resource for information as I've been getting going. As a matter of fact, the information I learned here helped me nurse back a VERY sick hen for a combination respiratory/sinus infection.
