Hello, Patrick, and welcome to BYC. Many of us have been surprised by our acceptance here. Understand they keep an eye on us and wield a ruler like a disciplinary nun.

I normally won't join any organization that would have me as a member, ha ha but today I made an exception.
We have kept chickens at our property for 25 years and have had as many as 20 hens at a time.
Now we currently have only 2 girls and they both went into molt and stopped laying. I think they are about 2-3 years old.
Newcastle disease here in Riverside County calif. is putting a strain on finding new baby chicks.
We never have raised any hens from chicks so I'll build an extension to the big girl coop and see how that goes.
I'm sure I'll be asking a few questions from you folks in the near future.

You might consider getting started pullets who may already be vaccinated against Newcastle like Meyers Hatchery? Just a thought. They would be more protected than a baby chick who has not been vaccinated.
