Hello all! I am new to chickens, or farming in general. We got a couple of ducklings (based on pictures online, I believe they are Swedish Cayuga) a couple of weeks ago from a farm supply store, and ordered some chicks (27 altogether) from a hatchery which just arrived this past Monday. Our chicks consist of a mix of Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Red Stars, Black Stars, White Rocks, Rose Comb Brown Leghorns, a Barred Rock, and a possible White-crested Polish Bantam (free "exotic" with order). Altogether, we have 23 hens and 4 roosters. We are unsure about the sex of the ducklings, and we will be getting a couple of turkeys in a couple of weeks. We are also getting a pig next week!

About me, I am a Herpetologist, specializing in native reptiles and amphibians, and absolute love venomous snakes. I teach high school science right now, and plan on going to graduate school to work toward my M.S. and Ph.D. in Zoology with a major emphasis in Herpetology. I have been married to the same woman since 1998, and have 2 children (Riley, age 5, and Brandon, age 3). We live in the country on 250 acres. I love anything outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. Anything else, just ask!

Thanks! Aside from these new additions to our home, our other "pets" include a few snakes (venomous and non-venomous alike), some turtles, a blue heeler mix (~4 yrs old), a great pyrenees/anatolian mix (~8 wks old), and a housecat.
