Hello! My name is Jonie and I live in east TN. I've wanted chickens for years now and my husband bought me Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow for Christmas, along with a big cash bookmark to get me started!

I would love some pointers on starting layers. I live next to a Wal-Mart... only yards away, however we are still within the county. I have a Blue Heeler dog and 4 kids, youngest one is 7. Most of our property is wooded with the exception of the garden area.

Well I can not tell you what to buy or get but I can suggest the Easter eggers are some of the easiest chickens to raise and great around kids and do produce a good quality egg of different colors

But you need to also know I also sell them so you might want to check other sources as well
