Am patiently waiting to get my chicks. Hopefully by Monday, if not Tuesday. We just made our brooder. I think it came out pretty good. Looked around a lot online and got some ideas. I build it with temp control because I wasn't really sure about how far to move the lamp each day and I really have no place to move it. I hope it works out well. have to test it out tomorrow and Sunday to get the hang of the temp but I think it should be alright..
I look forward to getting to know some you lovers of chickens.

Have a great night!

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help! Good luck with your soon-to-be-chicks! I remember how torturous it was to wait for my chicks! But, defiantly, get everything set up and ready before hand so you don't have to do anything when you get them. It also might be a good idea to give the chicks either apple cider vinegar or sugar in their water to start out with. Check for pasty butt first thing and let us know if you have any problems or questions! Check out the links attached too. Again welcome to the community!

Welcome to BYC!

Good luck with the new chicks! I know how hard it is to wait and also a bit scary too. I hope they arrive safely. Make sure your post office knows they are coming so they can call you when they get there. When you first get them, dip everybodies beaks in the water. Don't feed them until everybody has had water. The reason is that they are dehydrated from the shipping. And if they eat before they drink, they will get pasty butt for sure. If you have any probiotics, you can put some in their water as well. Good for preventing pasty butt and good for the GI tract and the immune system.

Good luck with your new babies and welcome to our flock!
