Hi there, I've just started keeping chickens, we got them as day old chicks and they all seem to be doing well except my little lavender pekin. He is aggressive and lively but it seems he is moulting already, though I don't know how that's possible as he is only 6 weeks old so has not had full feathers yet. Is this normal? Should I do something to help?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Yes chicks go through several mini moults during the first year of their lives. This happens as the grown and feathers are replaced as they grow. If your little Pekin is healthy, eating and drinking well I would not be too worried. All sounds quite normal with him.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your chicks in the future. Be sure to ask a the questions you need to around the forums. Everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

As chicks grow, they lose and grow feathers constantly. He looks healthy to me so I would not worry. Make sure he has lots to eat and drink. Once he gets to be about 8 weeks old, he will go through his adolescent stage. Also known as the "ugly stage." Once it is over, all his adult feathers will have gown in and he will look gorgeous!

Good luck with him as well as the rest of your birds. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Oh my! He is making me clucky!! Gorgeous little dude.
