Newbie in South Carolina.. with a few brooder questions

I'm Amy and will be getting 8 hens from MPC in mid-May.. at least they're supposed to be hens, but I know that's not always accurately predicted. I'm currently in the process of building my coop and run and am learning all I can about raising chickens.

One thing I haven't decided yet is where I want to put my brooder. My coop is going to be built in a way that will allow me to keep it safe and warm out there, but I'm thinking I may want to keep them closer at hand in a spare room of our house. So please tell me.... Are chicks extra smelly? Will they create a lot of dust? Do they sleep at night or will they peep all night long? If the answer is YES to any of those questions do you have any suggestions for minimizing the effects? THANKS for all your help! And, I look forward to making lots of BYC friends

You won't want them in the house for more than two weeks.

They give off TONS of chick dander... make LOTS of dust... and yup, they stink.

Mine were in a house for 2 months before getting moved outside. Since I'm no longer living in my mother's basement (long story), I'll probably put them in the mud room/porch this year.

Expected hatch March 26, Friday

noise - yes

smelly - yes (unless you change the material in the brooder every couple of days)

I have 8 EEs in the house right now. Need to build a coop! The weather wasn't cooperating this weekend
