After years of begging, my husband has finally caved to me having chickens. YES!!

We both grew up on farms with free range chickens but have waited so long to have our backyard coop. This week we adopted three Rhode Island Reds that are about 8 months old and then a neighbor gave us a Dominique, Rhode Island Red and two Welsummers that are two months old.

So far, so good. They're so happy running around and pecking away.

I'm learning so much on this forum and site, and I'm enjoying the reading.

So glad to meet you all!

Welcome, Maggie!
What part of Southern IN are you checking in from?
Good to hear that integration of the flock is going well thus far, though for future reference, when mixing birds (ie if you get more birds down the road), a good quarantine period is key in protecting the birds from infection that can be carried in from the flocks the birds have come from. 30 days of extra work in maintaining the quarantine can save you a LOT of heartache in preventing the loss of an entire flock from one bird who "seemed healthy".

Nice to meet you Maggie, Glad you joined us at Backyard chickens

Welcome to BYC, Maggie. Glad you decided to join our flock, and I'm glad your husband is on board with the chickens. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm actually near Petersburg, IN out in the country. :)
