I've been wanting egg layers for a long time and we finally got our coop up and running. We have 5 hens and one rooster, they're 2 months old. Wellsummer and black copper marans. We live next to a creek so I'm hoping we've predator proofed pretty well after reading online recommendations against raccoons, coyotes, hawks, etc. I'll probably have lots of questions so I do this right, so please bear with me. From what I've seen on here so far, you all seem very patient and kind in regards to sharing your knowledge and I SO look forward to your experience!

Once you get settled in, share a few pictures of your flock!

Welcome, get ready to enjoy yourself more than you thought possible with those chickens! Where are you, and do you have other livestock and pets?
We are in Cowiche WA, just outside of Yakima which is about 150 miles east of Seattle. We have one horse (I call him Crazy Horse cause he's moody), 3 dogs, and one tomcat. Funny thing is, the tomcat will sneak into the coop with me when I leave a little too much room but won't disturb the chickens. He's just insistent on being petted. :)
