Newbie & incubating, Day 6! Candling?

Hey, we have an early on Incubation support group. Oh good. Someone who FEELS my PAIN.

You think the grow fast in the egg. Man you should see 50 of these little monsters in a brooder coop. How could they possibly fit in an egg, and that's only after 2 days.

I set my eggs Saturday night on 11/24. That makes 11/25 day one and the evening of 12/15 ends Day 21. Darn, I had planned on going to Atlanta, GA for the day on 12/15. I may have to re-think that one. What day and time did you guys start your incubations?

I gave Betty (my broody hen) her eggs one day earlier so her's should hatch maybe by Friday, 12/14. I might have to take off that Friday from work.

I don't think I could concentrate at work knowing chicks might be hatching at home that day. Also, I'm considering the possibility of sneaking the incubator chicks under Betty so that she can take care of the whole dozen chicks. That way I'll just be feeding one set of chicks in one location.

I set mine on 11/24 at 9:45 am So far temps and humidity have been great. I'm both excited and scared to candle

I'll just be sick if they are all dead.

But I'm feeling optimistic about it. I think they'll be ok. I'm hoping anyway.

That's it. We will definitely think positively and hope for the best. My temps were a struggle the first 24 hours, but seem to have evened out wonderfully after I added the little computer fan to circulate the air. So, I am hopeful I will get at least something to hatch out of the six eggs in the incubator. I'm keeping good records on the temps, humidity and turning so I can review them if this hatching doesn't work out.

I'm already thinking about what eggs to try next. I've got it bad.

Searching here earlier (can't even remember the search terms I used) I saw a post where the person commented if they set the eggs before noon, that is Day#1 and if after noon, the next day becomes Day 1...said the 21 days is right on with that technique....hummm, kinda makes sense - so now I've marked 2 sets of numbers on my calendar between looking at the eggs rock back & forth.

I had this crazy thought today that I just wouldn't candle at all...not likely tho!

Donald, I took an innocent enough trip to Tractor Supply "just to check out the store" & came home with another LG bator!

Guess I should get some eggs in there, eh?

Be sure to post when you've decided on your next eggs!

How coincidental!!!! I was also at the local Tractor Supply today returning the broken auto egg turner. They didn't have another turner, but I almost got another LG incubator. I resisted the strong urge to buy it and ran out of there as fast as possible after getting my refund. I hope I can stay away from that store for a while.

The weekend of the 23rd must have been busy!! I too put my eggs in. My neighbor and I take turns with the incubator. This time it's at my house and we have 39 eggs we are starting with

. Good luck to everybody!

Cool eje! What breeds are you incubating? Wow, it's going to be exciting to see how all of our hatches go:fl...Dec 15th, right??!! ...3 more days to candle

Ok, I cheated I candled well some of my eggs today. I made the candler, so I had to test it right?

Well guess what! There is life in them there eggs. Well at least some of them. I'm going to wait a few more days and try again I was too stupid to keep track of what I found. So, I don't really remember what eggs I candled. 2 were questionable, and at least 3 were growing. I have nine so I'm not totally sure. At this point just having one is eggciting.
