Newbie...Incubating Quail Questions

For my Button Eggs, I gently take them out of the bator and put them by my ear and I gently tap on the egg and start chirping. 90% of the time, you can hear them start to peck inside the egg or you can hear them chirp. If you have a REALLY bright light try getting in a dark room and candling them

That only works if they have pipped internally, if they are 3, 4, or more days before hatch you won't hear a thing.

That's True!

All though I have done that with eggs that hadn't pipped and you could her them chirping inside.
Is there any candler that can candle quail eggs? It would be soooo great if there was one!

Pipped internally, not necessarily pipped the shell. If they haven't pipped into the air cell (internal pip) they can't chirp because they have no air.

I bet it's pretty easy to candle Bob-eggs. They're White!!
Buttons eggs are Dark Green w/Speckles all over them....

It's not impossible to candle button eggs. Granted, you probably won't see much, but you can usually tell if they are developing. I don't bother candling until I put them in lockdown, by they you can surely tell if they are developed or not unless they are super dark. I also candle before setting them to make sure none are cracked.

It would have been really nice when I was incubating the 45 Button Eggs to have been able to candle them, cause only 11 hatched. All the rest were rotten.

A few had fully formed chicks .. but they just didn't make it.

I can put a chick thats broken the shell to my ear and not hear it, unless they are really screaming and ticked off. I need to do the float test and watch the video that's down below it in another reply as an example.

Anything happening with these eggs? Quess its still early todays only the 19th, day 16, well the start of day 17.

I let nature takes it's course. If I continue opening the hatcher, hearing if the bird is peeping through the tiny hole, picking up eggs, that's going to tire out the poor things! They need to do it on their own. Leave it to nature. On the hatch day, open the hatcher, don't see babies, close it...check back later

It's terrorizing I know but the more non hatchers occur because of us intervening and being inpatient.
