Hi guys, I'm MrsChicky55, I'm a newbie, this is my first year with chickens. I started out with a few barnyard mixes and:
Black Copper Marans
Welsummers
Olive Eggers
Americaunas
Looking for a colorful egg basket but now I also want to improve my birds as I've found they aren't the exactly the APA standard and it would be fun to improve upon that. I'll be looking to learn more about my breeds and how to improve my stock. Just signed my kid up in 4-H so showing birds will be fun and I enjoy watching her learn about the birds and caring for them.
I also took in 2 rescue birds - Their Polish pullets, I love that frizzled polish look so I thought that could be a fun project.
And currently I have 32 silkie/satin/frilkie eggs in the incubator. Because they are just so darn cute those little puff balls!
Next year I'm looking to add meat birds thinking American Bresse and some turkeys.
We currently use Fodder and fermented feed as well as dry feed and I'm looking to start raising my own meal worms this month. Kind of a pinterest a holic so I've always got some chicken project up my sleeve.
But part of the reason I got into chickens is because I'm a bit of science geek and I love learning about chicken genetics even if I am pretty green. I just find it all very fascinating! Look forward to getting to know y'all and thanks to everyone who's already reached out to me with helpful information in posts. It's nice to have such a helpful forum for info!
