Just started our 16 count flock March 31, 2018. This is our first farm animal endeavor. All 16 are still alive, so we must be doing something right. We bought our flock at our local TSC. We bought four Orpinton pullets, four White Plymouth Rocks pullets, and eight Golden Sex Link straight-runs. The store attendant was great at feather sexing our Sex Links. I wish I had her check the Rocks as two turned out to be roos. Didn't know until later that TSC would have made it right since I paid extra for pullets. Oh well, lesson learned. Read a lot of BYC post before getting our flock. I think I discovered it on Pinterest. We began our farm a few years ago alongside our love of dogs, we have five, two cats and a Mississippi Mud turtle. We began gardening first on our farm here in East Texas with good results except for cucumbers, watermelon, and cantaloupe. We have been using our chicken's poop around our trees and I have begun to save it now for the garden. In the past week, we have received over a dozen eggs, with four being collected yesterday. I wasn't planning on any eggs until the mid of August. We plan to sell our excess eggs.
