Hello all! I'm from Long Island NY. I've been poking around byc for quite some time now. With chicken ownership hopefully not too far away I decided to join and make it official. We've been thinking about owning chickens for a few years now. I recently attended a seminar at a local farm about raising chickens, definitely got me motivated. They hatch, raise and sell hybrid chicks as well. Just trying to get my chicks in a row (so to speak) before making the plunge. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions, but want to dig through the site to try and find the answers first. Excited to meet everyone and talk chicken!

! Happy you joined our community! Congrats on your impending chicken purchase! You were wise to research first and buy later rather than the other way around. BYC is a great place for research and friendly advice so don't be afraid to ask when the time comes. If you'd like to chat with some fellow NY poultry folks, find your state thread in the link below and say howdy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!

Howdy from Texas! Lol I'm new too. I have 19 8 week olds. You will love it. We ordered day olds, so they were just a couple days old when we got them. Ordered 20 but one died during the night after a few days. No idea what happened. But, everyone else is doing great and all very entertaining! Good luck, and yes look around, ask questions....everyone has been so wonderful and helpful on here!!

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

I've come to realize that chickens are a hobby, haha. After adding up the cost's of everything from coop construction to daily care, it's well above the cost of eggs from the store. My initial goal is to ensure our family eats healthy and I'm hoping to save money by not having to buy eggs, one out of two isn't bad. I think it'll be a good experience for my children.
