newbie - need advice on coop design - pictures on progress

WoW!
Those coops are beautiful.
We don't have those kind of carpentry skills.
Our coop basically looks like a dog house ... we have only 4 hens.
When you're finished, be sure to post a pitcure.
Good Luck!

Nice ~ that business is in the county where I live. They have lots of beautiful coops, sheds and other buildings on display.

I would love to see pictures of your coop in progress.

Front wall 7ft. 6in. and back 6ft.. 6in. drop in front and 2ft. in in back. 8ft. center. Just my guess. That how I would do it sense your siding will be 8ft. long by 4ft. wide.

If you're altering the size anyhow, you may well want to alter the rest of the dimensions so's to maintain what you consider suitably-attractive aesthetics. Rather than worrying about what THEY did, I'd suggest just noodling around with pencil and paper and see what you think looks right.

I believe their back wall is 4 and the peak is 6' or a smidge more, though, fwiw.

including the nesting boxes, so inside floor space will be 4x5.

Can I observe that if you put the nestboxes so that there is at least 14" of space below them, they will not subtract at all from indoor floorspace. I would strongly recommend doing that, in such a small coop.

You do realize that the mfrs of these type coops usually RADICALLY exaggerate how many chickens you'd typically want to keep in there, yes, and that in a 5x5 coop you'd really be best off not having more than 5-6 chickens unless you are in a year-round always-beautiful climate?

Make sure to build in large ventilation openings at the top of the 'front' wall (above the windows, tucked up under the roof overhang).

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Suggestions noted. Will post pics when I get a chance, but must get the six peeps under roof first. Thanks Rick
