We started recently (week after Easter) with our chick-venture. I purchased 6 RIR and 6 buff orp's. I had taken on a RIR roo a year ago from a friend who was raising chicks in town. This was their first hen that started crowing
Once my 12 original chicks were feathered, we moved them to the big girl house. The roo was relegated to the run with some cover and a nice little single dwelling for a while. Later that week I was looking for some EE's but found 6 black australorps instead. We kept them inside until they started feathering and then moved them out into the big girl house but kept them in a large carrier to get the others familiar. We moved them out of the carrier this weekend, so wish us luck. So far so good.
Oh... one of my little RIR hens ran up to the side of the coop as I walked by a couple weeks ago and crowed at me. LOL she's a purty roo!
