We had a 11 month old RIR pass today no reason, have done some reading as to a cause and guess it was gods doing. My question should the eggs continue to be consumed or should we not eat them for a while to see what happens???

Thanks in Advance, The Miller Family

It's really hard to say what happened. You say she's been laying fine? (This is what I'm assuming since you are asking if it's okay to consume the eggs.) That crosses out being egg bound.

Have you noticed any odd type of behavior at all? Sneezing, withdrawn from the rest of the flock, etc...?

BTW, welcome and so sorry for the loss of your chicken.

First I am sorry about your loss!

Are you sure she was laying? I know egg bound can kill a chicken. I dunno,

Maybe someone else will know more.

sorry

Yes I would say she was, but my daughter informed me that we havent gotten a "rough" egg lately, there was one hen that always laid a really rough shelled egg and we havent seen one in a week or so, Should we keep eating them or wait a bit??

First welcome to BYC and your freaking me out because I live in Northern NY and my last name is Miller!

Second Im sorry for your loss-its always rots when there no apparent reason for it.

third, I would eat the eggs without hesitation. The roughness off the outer shell is sometimes extra calcium deposits-kinda gritty? right?

Thanks for all the replys, this site is going to be ALOT of Fun, "Sonew" do you ever get to Wilmington? Sportsmanns Inn?
