Hi! I have just started incubating and hatching fertile eggs. I hatched one black cochin bantam frizzle chick recently. I don't know yet if it's a he or she, but it is certainly looking "frizzly". If it is a female, and I mate her with a"regular"bantam black cochin rooster, can you predict what percentage of the chicks will be frizzled? Or on the other hand, if it is a roo, and I mate him with a "regular" black cochin female?
I have been told not to hatch frizzle on frizzle because of poor feather development/bald spots, sparse feathers on frizzle x frizzle chicks.

I also have some non frizzled chicks from the same bunch ( sold as frizzles)--could they have a recessive gene for frizzling?

Thanks for any info.
Pat

statistically speaking you should get 50% frizzle when breeding smooth to frizzle. However, I have yet to find a chicken that can read a math book.
