Newbie question - duck droppings

They can also shoot it quite far as DH found when he followed one of my ducklings around the house with a towel trying not to make a mess.

Same here - it can range from cake icing consistency to mostly water. More protein, more aroma. Eat dirt, very dark droppings. Eat peas, green droppings. Every now and then, a particularly aromatic chocolate sauce.

Now that I have destroyed your appetite . . . . .

There is an unmistakable putrid smell when they are sick. Drei had a dark metallic green poop when she was sick - I think it may have been hardware disease, or it may have been from the medication. So sometimes it's just not clear cut.

If they are energetic, eating and drinking and making poop, they are probably just fine.

I go round inspecting all sorts of poop too. I had to take a fresh sample of goat poop to the vets a few years ago and I walked round after goats for hours. I had all my little ziplock bags with names wrote on them ready and waiting for poop. They never poop when you want them too and Im the end I was waiting for 1 to poop, I was in a rush, I had to leave to get the vet his poop before he shut for lunch...so guess what, Yep I went in after the poop. Its quite easy on a goat, Im sure you dont need the details but in the end I got my poop wether the darn goat was going to poop or not

Thank goodness I am not the only one that does stuff like that. I have had to "extract" horse poop. I grew up in a very suburban area, with no pets. No one from my early life can fathom how I could possibly do what I do! LOL. Yup, poop IS important!

Well they cant control "it" so I would think its different amounts at different times depending on how much they eat at a time, but my ducks doodoo varies, A LOT! Especially when they get treats like peas!

They aren't all that energetic, but maybe that's because they're in such an enclosed space. They lay next to the feeder a lot of the time when they eat...maybe the feeder is too low? They seem to be frisky at bath time.

I'm also hearing a sniffle here and there. They're eating and drinking like no tomorrow.

I just have no experience with ducks

Thanks, everyone for the fun, graphic answers. Y'all are a hoot.

My Pekins are only 4 weeks old, but their poo differs depending on the time. Sometimes it's solid, sometimes more loose. (I'm definitely not an expert)
