Hello All : ) I did as much research as I possibly could before starting my flock- and began with 3 sex linked"golden comet" pullets, They are currently almost 3 weeks ol?? d and in the brooder and today I added 2 amberlink chics, said to be about 10 days old form a local hatchery- ONe is a bit larger than the other, and while the larger seems to be adjusting just fine I(overworrier) am a bit more concerned with the smaller chick. The 3 larger girls are trudging around their brooder and keep walking over her, like she isnt even there..and they were not happy when I put the new chicks in, they are really curious and pecked me a few times begging to be let out..

The littlest amberlink is breathing a bit heavy, I can tell she is scared..I did gether to eat ad drink just fine alongside the sex links..but they are twice the size of her.
Any suggestions?? Should I remove the new chicks when IM not downstairs to keep an eye on them? Should I put 2 brooders side by side so they have more time to get used to eachother?? Now I know where the expression "mother hen" comes from lol,.Who would have thought my newfound chicken love would be this much : )

Any words of advice would be helpful..Just want the all to get along

They are all laying next to each other now..does this mean they are ok with her?? She is just so much smaller...The other new chick seemed to fit right in but this little..I think for tonight I will pull the two new chicks when I go to bed and put them in the other brooder next to the brooder the sex links are in..and maybe let them be together during the day while IM home for a few days?? Does this sound like the right thing to do?? IM new to all of this

I imagine they would be fine....the best time to put them together for the first time is when they are all snuggled together for bedtime. It makes it easier for them to accept a newcomer.
In about a week, you will see they have all found their place in the group and will go about doing their chickeny thing!!!

I have a question about blending chicks into a flock of hens.
I have my 6 weeks old chicks seperated now in the coop and run, but realized by the time they are big enough to be with the hens, they will still be on their starter feed and cannot have the laying feed. Vice Versa, the hens can't have the starter feed either because they are laying.

How do you blend chicks into a flock of hens with regard to their food?????

WOW! That's way easier than I anticipated

Can the chicks have access to the oyster shells too?
