newbie question on term lockdown

They mean the last three days when the humidity has to be higher and you aren't supposed to open the bator. I call it IBW, which means Intense Bator Watch or Intense Broody Watch.

Someone said that sounded like an intestinal ailment, LOL.

I'm a rebel. I don't "lockdown" anything.

Last three days of incubation you stop rotating the eggs and keep the incubator shut (ideally) thus "lockdown"

personally I don't care for the term but use it because it is just what others use.... ya know?

A few days before hatch, when you stop turning eggs... you up the humidity, close the box, and chew yer nails for several days. As babes are hatching - you DON'T open the incubator. That's "lockdown" from stop-turning - till after hatch.

<waves at Speckledhen> Hey, Lady! You still got no Goonie Birds?

I hear about when the babies start hatching it causes the Humidity to rise considerably? What do you do then if not open it some?
I start lockdown on the morning of 3/15, and have to be out of down for the day on 3/16 - not sure if this is a good thing or not... Probably gone from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Just based on my personal hatching experience, it probably IS a good thing as you won't sit in the house all day with your nose pressed to the incubator window wondering if you should do something that you probably shouldn't!

My eggs never seem to want to hatch until I leave.

I leave the bator's vent holes open from the first pip. I prop up the corner of the bator by laying a pencil acoss the corner if it rises above 75%. I even remove fluffed out chicks as we go, quickly, of course. I don't actually lock down the incubator, but then, I've been doing this for years now.
