Before I head out to the barn to take some pictures, I have a question. I have 10 7 week old girls out in my feed room attached to my horse barn, with my new run/pen being built this weekend, (YEAH!) I can't wait. I ordered from Meyer, and have been learning new meaning to the expressions, "pecking order" and "henny Penny". I have 2 Columbian Wyandottes, and one of them has been so dominant and bossy since day 1. I also see "her" challenging the others all the time, and doing this eye contact, head swirling, rooster fighting behavior. Neck feathers come up, and the chest thumping begins. She also does that air bomb diving on everyone to send them scattering. Thing is, I see the other chicks behave in kind when "she" does it, but she by far, does it the most and is always the initiater. Do hens act like this? Is she just a big bossy leader of the flock, or do I possibly have a mistake roo? I was never worried about that, since they come from a big hatchery, but I guess mistakes do happen. Her comb area is a lot bigger and two waddles below are growing much larger than her breed partner. It is also bright bright red all the time, when the other 9 combs are just faded. Is she just super amazonia woman? Any thoughts?

I will head out to post some pictures.

Thanks for any imput.

Pics would be helpful... we have 2 super bossy, bratty hens and they behave exactly how yours sounds. If Sunshine (brat number 1) hadn't been a sex link, I could've sworn that she was a rooster. But sex link hens and roos look very different. Scratch (brat number 2) is a rosecomb brown leghorn, and she was similar to Sunshine in the fact that she had some major comb-wattles action going on at 16 weeks old. We thought for certain she was a rooster... and then came the first egg.

I have a slw who is super mean to the girls who are younger/newer than her. She was a quiet thing until they came along. I also have a BLRW who I thought was a pullet - until I posted a pic here when she was 7 weeks old and someone pointed out her comb and waddles. She's a pretty boy :)

Ok, I had a crazy weekend, sorry for the delay in posting some pictures.

Here is "Daisy", hoping all you experts on Columbian Wyandottes can give me your imput. I apprieciate anyones experienced opinion.
This is the chicken that has been very dominant, and has exhibited all the behavior that I mentioned at the start of my thread. What do you all think about the comb that is far larger and redder than her/his breed partner, and I will also post pictures of her/his full body too

Her/His tail feathers are much smaller than her breed partner name Maisy. I noticed when she/he was about 3 weeks old she went thru a few days where she/he pulled out her feathers. Since then her tail has been like this. Does she look like a hen or a roo to you guys?

Here is her/his breed partner Maisy

can two hens be so different? The red freaks me out on the first set of pictures. I also have this final photo of the two of them side by side from behind if this tells anything. I hope these photos are quality enough. If not, I can try to get some more tomorrow with some one to help me hold them. THey kept pecking at my phone... too funny.

Girl is on the left, and the one I am not sure about are is on the right.

Let me know what you think, THANKS!

Oh boy, best laid plans eh? I see the pictures of the full grown Columbian roosters, and they are beautiful! Are they known to be docile and friendly? I really didn't think I wanted one, but I have read many things about how having one can be helpful. I do know someone who will take him off my hands, I guess I will just inch along and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for helping out.
