Before I head out to the barn to take some pictures, I have a question. I have 10 7 week old girls out in my feed room attached to my horse barn, with my new run/pen being built this weekend, (YEAH!) I can't wait. I ordered from Meyer, and have been learning new meaning to the expressions, "pecking order" and "henny Penny". I have 2 Columbian Wyandottes, and one of them has been so dominant and bossy since day 1. I also see "her" challenging the others all the time, and doing this eye contact, head swirling, rooster fighting behavior. Neck feathers come up, and the chest thumping begins. She also does that air bomb diving on everyone to send them scattering. Thing is, I see the other chicks behave in kind when "she" does it, but she by far, does it the most and is always the initiater. Do hens act like this? Is she just a big bossy leader of the flock, or do I possibly have a mistake roo? I was never worried about that, since they come from a big hatchery, but I guess mistakes do happen. Her comb area is a lot bigger and two waddles below are growing much larger than her breed partner. It is also bright bright red all the time, when the other 9 combs are just faded. Is she just super amazonia woman? Any thoughts?
I will head out to post some pictures.
Thanks for any imput.
