Newbie question - what kind of chickens?

I would suggest a red sex-linked like a red star. The lay almost as well as the leghorns. They lay brown eggs. They generally have very nice personalities and are gentle. The kids across the street carry theirs around the yard all the time. They supposedly do okay in the heat (we don't have your temps here.)

That's a list of birds that would do well for you. I live in Texas, so I know about heat. The birds I've ordered are wyandotte, easter egger, and australorp.

I can see the australorps doing well in the heat seeing as they are the australian version of a Buff Orpington.
