Hello All, is there a thread that you can point me to that has a lot of good generalist info (not breed specific?) about starting a project or line.

I'm not working on anything, but I am curious what all the discussions referencing F0 and such mean and I'd love a good primer if someone can direct me.

TIA.

Can't point you to a primer but doing a google on pedigree breeding notations or some such thing would tell you what you want to know.

I'm no expert on all the notations but generally speaking F1, F2, F3... means you crossed two lines or two breeds for an F1 generation. Breeding the F1 to each other begets F2 and so on. BC stands for back cross. So you would have notation like F1BCD meaning that first generation was backcrossed to the dam's line. You can see how it can progress from there. F4BCF2 or other types of notations can be figured out.
