Hi all! I'm new to chickens and this forum as our family just recently bought 25 chicks from Murray McMurry hatchery. They are already 6 weeks old and we r amazed at the speed in which the lil Devils grow! Gonna put em out to our coop which is just an old pigstall from our very old barn which I converted over to work as a coop with an attached 12 x 12 run. While I was putting the finishing touches on today I realized it's kinda dark in the old barn so I was wondering how much that would effect egg production. The other question I had is I planned on using hay as bedding using the deep litter method but will that creat to much dust? Thanks in advance and I'm sorry for the rookie questions!

Welcome! I hope your new coop is big enough (AT LEAST 100 sq. ft. or larger), well ventilated, and predator proof. For bedding, I've found that shavings (bagged as livestock bedding) work best, maybe with some hay or straw mixed in. Straight hay or straw are much harder to work with. Mary
