Newbie Set Some Eggs the 28th - Anyone care to join me?

I have thirteen eggs in the incubator. It's my first hatch, and the wait is already killing me.

I have a mixed flock so I'm going to end up with some...interesting Rhode Island Red and Silver Duckwing Old English game Bantam crosses. I think I have two of the Silver Duckwing Old English game Bantams. Hopefully. But I'm just rambling in my excitement. Not expecting a high hatch rate. Anyone care to join me or share stories of your first hatch?

I've started some eggs in the incubator today, July 29. This is my second time as I have 10 one week old babies I've just hatched. What I've started today are 18 bantam cochins, some frizzled, 6 golden laced wyandottes and 6 delawares. I'm awaiting an order of an assortment of sussexes but will add them in when they arrive.

I forgot to add my first hatch experience. I had 18 silkie eggs, ended up with 7 to successfully hatch. 3 are white and 4 are blue. I also had 3 americauna eggs, none of which hatched and only one of those formed anything at all. I had 2 jersey giants, both formed completely but one hatched. Also two cuckoo marans. Both hatched, one of those is huge, having hatched first of all and was strong and noisy from the start. He's got lots of feathers all on his wings already.

Great! It's day six and when I candled yesterday I saw definite veins.

aww..I want to see veins. I hope my flashlight will be bright enough to see them this time. I could never see them my first hatch. What I did notice last night was that one cochin bantam eggs has a portion of what looks like a blood ring in the egg.

Excuse my newbieness. Is that bad or good?

This will be only my second hatch, but I learned that if there is a red ring in the egg during candling that it means the chick is dead. I had several I had to throw out with my first batch.

Sorry about that. It looks like I have two that have blood rings. Two are great - veins and everything. The others I don't see anything.
