Newbie to chickens!!

I have just inherited 18 RIR hens and 16 BR hens and one rooster. They are staying at my son's house and I will go up there to care for them. No way to move the two coops and runs. They can't free-range because of the hawks and dogs. The runs smell horrible and we are going to try the deep litter method. I have browsed the site and it looks like a gold mine of information.

Sounds like they may need a larger coop and run so the poop isn't mountain high every day. They also need clean up when necessary. Some folks sprinkle "stall dri" a horse product, on the litter to help keep the odor down.

Sounds like your off to a great start...now you just need time and energy to help feed and water them. The next think that will happen is these chickens looking forward to arriving for feeding! it will not take long before they all enjoy your company/ Best of luck!

Both coops have a drip system for water, so all I have to do is feed, gather eggs and keep them clean and healthy, hopefully.
