Welcome to Backyard chickens Fran, it's very nice to meet you. If you have a roost for your birds, generally a 2 x 4 board. It's best to have the 4" side up. Chickens like to lay their feet in front of them, and cover with their head. It helps keep them warm. Some folks also tack a towel around the roost to help add a little heat.
