Good luck with your new chicks. We just had our first hatching experience. The first one hatched Saturday and we had to help the last ones this morning. Just remember to never open your incubator after lockdown. We learned this the hard way and had to help 5 of ours because they were shrink wrapped. Just read as much as you can on these message boards so you'll be prepared. These people are so wonderful and helpful!

McNuggetJr just called (she just got home from school - had a field trip today) and she looked through the window of the 'bator and 3 are pipping!

So exciting! Congrats ! It's so addictive- my 9 just hatched less than a week ago and I already want to do it again cause i LOVE seeing what comes out and how cute they are after they fluff up

But my hubbie is preparing to move out if any more chicks move in, so I'd better restrain myself. Thinking of doing some bantam blue cochins next or maybe some cornish x for meat.

Thanks for the tip! I will remember that next time.

If it is a small crack you can also just put the sticky part of a bandaid on the crack...

McNuggetJr just called and there are 8 chicks hatched so far out of the 17 that were locked down.

She want to get the dry ones out of the incubator this evening and move them to the brooder. Is there a problem in doing this if we do it quickly (maybe move one at a time, allowing the 'bator temp/humidity to go back to optimum) She says it's getting croweded in the 'bator. I think she just wants to play with the babies....
