Good morning! I’m getting a 3 y/o pair of breeding Toulouse this weekend and had a few questions; how many years are they capable of hatching and raising their own? Will they continue to lay after they’re not productive anymore? Most importantly, can they be housed with ducks? I have about 20 ducks now that live together and 5 muscovies that live in the barn. Thanks in advance for any insight!

They lay eggs at 9 months and become mature at 2

My six year old layed last year, she’s the oldest female I have so I wish I could be more helpful.
Personally I wouldn’t put 3 year olds in with ducks, some people have geese and ducks that get along fine, I do not, my geese hate ducks, it’s partially the ducks fault but the geese just don’t get over some things. They can’t be together or I’d end up with dead ducks.
If you put mature geese in with ducks, especially if they’re unused to them, it may not turn out well for some of the ducks.

Thanks. I think I'll put them in the barn for a week to establish their home here then move them to a shelter by the creek and just let them free range (I lock the ducks in an outside pen at night).

Thanks again!

I would lock the geese in an enclosure at night too, geese though they put up a good show, they’re actually defenseless to most predators, they aren’t even a match for foxes if they mean business.
