Newbie with 4 Week Old Chicks

Nugget and Fricassee look like Production Reds. Fricassee looks like a pullet, but I would keep an eye on Nugget whose comb looks fairly large and quite a bright pink (although the picture is a bit blurry) for only 5 1/2 weeks. If that comb starts reddening up over the next few weeks, you have a cockerel. With due respect to PrudentPrepper, Blackened is not a Wyandotte with that single comb and those blackish pink legs. Blackened looks like it might be a Black Sex Link, and if so, its color marks it out as a pullet. However that comb looks quite large and pink for 5 1/2 weeks so I would keep a careful eye on it. If it reddens up over the next few weeks, Blackened is a cockerel and not a Black Sex Link. Are Pot Pies legs pinkish or yellow. They look pinkish to me but that could just be a trick of the lighting. If the legs are pinkish, then Pot Pie is a Cuckoo Marans. If the legs are yellow, then Pot Pie is a Barred Rock. Either way, given the large white bands in the barring and the large pink comb at 5 1/2 weeks, I think Pot Pie is a cockerel.

Michael OShay, thanks for the info! I had to go take a better look at Pot Pie just to make sure. Looks like he has pink legs with a little soft gray covering the fronts. I don't remember the farmer saying anything about Cuckoo Marans, but maybe he didn't list everything he had wandering around the place. Is there a possibility that Pot Pie is just mixed heritage with Barred Rock and something else that achieves a similar look, or is it pretty certain that he'd be cuckoo marans from the look of him? Also, do you think they look older than 4 weeks old? Thanks, again.

You're welcome. If the legs are pink (and all the more so with soft gray down on them), he's almost certainly a Cuckoo Marans. Farmers sometimes own Cuckoo Marans thinking they are Barred Rocks since both breeds have black and white barring. They look to me like they might be around 6 weeks old or so since that's close to the age that chicks usually completely feather out.

Bethany I agree, they look to be around the same age as my little ones and they are 6-7 weeks old.
