Newbie!!! With a goat HELP!

Hi
Please can someone tell me what breed my little darling Lolly is
She was a rescue from a Meat works her mother was slaughtered for meat (duh) the day she was born
I have NEVER had a pet in my life, never been interested in or liked animals even
Then I saw my LOLLY and my heart melted
Shes only 4 days old I have never even seen a goat in real life before so have absolutely no idea about goats i just figured id wash her up buy goats milk from supermarket& some bottles, put her in Nappies, put a jersey on her & keep her inside & google 'how to raise a goat' till i saw a vet to tell me otherwise
Took her to the vet day 2 & he said she looked good i was doing good & gave me probiotics for her for the next 3 days & said she may go down in the next 4 days if she didnt get the colostrum (we werent sure if she got it)

I believe that this is a part Nubian, part something else, it's hard too tell with mix breeds. I own a couple goats so I'm glad I can give you some help. I just want too know if the baby goat got colostrum, the first 24 hours of it's life. (but i just saw that you don't know, so never mind lol) (colostrum is a very thick, with tons of nutrients and vital probiotics, it's milk that the mommy goat makes the first 3 days which helps the immune system of the new baby goat) If the baby did not get this the first 12 hours of life, it prob will not make it. It's VERY good that your giving her probiotics. Make sure the milk your giving her is NOT pasteurized, since all the life that keeps the baby goat alive in the milk is burned out of it. If It's legal where you live, buy RAW goats milk. if you can't get that, get milk replacer for lambs and goats. Also when you bottle feed her, angle the bottle high (so that there Adam's apple is clearly visible so that the milk goes into the right stomach (they have two, and if milk goes into one, before the other, lil lolly won't be able too get all the nutrients out of it.) if you have any other questions just ask : ) good luck!

Is it right to have her as a PET? CAN she be a PET? My hubby just sees a lawnmower. Of course when she gets too big & strong she will be outside but for now she gets the option (is THAT even okay?) Our next visit to the vet will be when she is 1 week old to show him Lollys still alive & ask what next (vitamins? Immunisations? Haircut? Horncut? Pedicure? - I sense eye-rolling as I type this lol)

I believe she could make a GREAT PET. both my goats are : ) right now she should just be drinking milk, but after about a month, let her get a taste for hay and grass. NOTE. never feed a goat JUST FRESH GRASS, it can kill them, I've lost 2 goats too bloat. Which is when a goat eats too much fresh juciy grass and gasses start building up in their stomachs and they...I don't want too scare you, but in worse cases...they pop

Still, let them eat grass and all but make sure there eating dry hay as well. goats are very hardy and I have never given one of my goats shots (I'm not opposed too it, just most of my goats have been very healthy) and she is 12 years old. (goats live 9-10 years). Also letting your little Lolly run around the house is fine, just make sure she's safe. and she may start breaking stuff when she gets more active lol. If you don't want a goat with horns, DON'T let the horns grow out and then saw them off. unlike antlers, horns have blood and nerves, and sawing there horns off would be like sawing of a finger...painful and they could bleed too death. Most people bring there baby goats too get dis-budded (It's an iron that burns the little nub of a horn off so it never grows) when there about Lolly age under a week. It IS painful for the baby, but it lasts only for a few seconds and there are way worse ways of removing horns.

It looks like corny caleb has got you covered, , but if you check out the website backyard herds, they have everything you could ever need to know! that's where I went when I got my first goats. You may also want to get more goats or else lolly might get lonely and scream ALL day.

OOOO yes, I can't believe that I forgot that!, goats are VERY social and, along by them selves can get very lonely, when she gets older, try too find her a barnyard buddy, It doesn't even have too be another goat! Also, when Lolly is older (I'm not sure exactly how old they should be, better check with your vet when too start deworming) deworm her every season (Spring, summer, fall, winter). You can get dewormers made just for goats at farm animal supply stars. And when you DO deworm Lolly, make sure you know how much she weighs, (since you give them the amount of dewormer based on there weight). Do not OVER DEWORM Lolly since all dewormers are slightly toxic (too kill the worm), and they can poison the goat if you overdose her with it.

Yea, goats actually have a single stomach divided into four separate chambers...

There is so much to cover in a post, so I truly would suggest check out Back Yard Herds. If I weren't working on a research paper for microbiology (bad enough that I am wasting time on here, hah!) I'd definitely make a huge post that covers all the bases correctly. Much more experienced folks are on BYH, who know everything goats, including how many stomachs they actually have
