Newbie with a quail question

Hello Hello!!

TwoCrows, Thank You!! I googled images of pin feathers, and yep, that's what they are! Looks pretty freaky. Nope, no brooder. I got them at 1 week old and just kept them in a hamster cage, in the house, until I got the coop made. Took me about a week (it was a fun project)! Then I transferred them outside and they have been there ever since. And yes! They are pretty fun! I've been wanting some for years and years now and finally found a semi-local source for them. Just Coturnix for now. I've heard they are the easiest and I love, love, love the eggs! Unfortunately, I think I ended up with mostly boys :-(

So glad you are enjoying them! You can post pics in our quail section for help with sexing. You will need to keep them 1 male to 4 to 7 females. If you end up with all males, you can keep them together as along as there are no girls around.

Coturnix are great beginner birds. They are very easy to raise and can be somewhat handled. Make sure to give them as much room as you can afford. Don't cram them in. And if you do keep them on wire, give them places to get off the wire to rest the feet. They are susceptible to bumblefoot and leg issues living on wire.

Enjoy your quail! :)
