i agree, i own my own business which feeds and puts clothes on 6 families and in turn gives me a nice income also ... to me a chicken is disposable and i would never think of taking a bird to the vet no matter what my income is ... sick bird = dead bird ...

Beed- That was quite an intro. I myself pamper my chickens also and have spent a lot of money on the meds in my chicken cabinet. I will do the best that I can with what knowledge I have and the knowledge that the others on BYC have to save one of my chickens. Like someone else stated, we all have different incomes and different beliefs. I find that an axe is somewhat cheaper then a vet bill. I'm not saying that what you believe is wrong, I'm just giving my opinion instead of an attitude

Welcome:welcome

I think you have found we are a close group who are willing to support each other come what may. We can have differences, but we are also strangely united.

We are totally united in loving our chickens.

We all plan for our girls never to get sick, and if they do we will do our utmost to treat them. As you have seen finding a vet to treat chickens is not easy. I have 4 girls,I did my research and bought the hardiest bred here in the UK, I take darn good care of them and I keep them clean and very well fed.

There is so much experience here on this site, and we all help each other, now there is an attitude for you.

Welcome
Jena.

wouldnt it be nice if those with such strong feelining such as this would in fact go to school and become a chicken vet, then be able to keep costs low enough for the average to afford, and be able to travel from state to state treating all the sick chickens?

now that would be a much better solution than a soap box..

Well, hello, Ft Pierce. All my neighbors here are from Ft. Pierce. All bought "vacation" homes, but live in them half the year.

If I can fix the bird, I do. If I can't, I cull. No vets for my chickens.
