Newbie with coop questions

We sold our coop today, so we can start building our own. But I'm wondering if our chicks are ok in this area. Do you think the fence is tall enough? At least until we can finish the coop (once we decide how we are going to make it), and tackle that project. The only thing I worry about is our dogs on the other side.

Also I was going to have them use this whole area, but now I'm wondering if we should get a run instead. We have two right now RIR and another that I'm not sure (black and white), and plan to get 2-3 silkies next week. The ones we have now are almost 8 was old. Still go in the garage at night but out almost all day.

That picket fence looks a little short to me, they could just about hop over that without much effort, I'd put up at least a 4ft temp fence.
