Newbie With Ducklings!

I ordered two welsh harlequins from Metzger and they were shipped two day priority.  They were hatched on the 8th and the post office called me at 3:30 IN THE MORNING on the 10th to tell me they had arrived.  They were closed but let us in to pick up our ducks.  I was shocked. The peeping was probably driving them nuts, lol!

They called us at 6:30 and told us to go to the back door! I agree, the noise probably drove them crazy! Haha!

@AnjKar n Ducks
Turns out they are elastic bands as Metzer stopped using tape! (Anyone with sexed Metzer ducks: TAKE OFF THE BAND!) We used our ninja skills to easily cut them off while they were cuddled up and stretched out. They didn't even realize it happened! :)

That's so weird
Least they didn't feel it
I wonder why they changed from tape because last I read they used bands then changed to tape?
Well anyways glad everything went well :hugs

They said that the tape would get wet and be harder to get off or would take longer to fall off. Me too! :)

Here's the ducklings they arrived this morning at 9!
I'll try to get a picture in a couple of days when they are use to everything and
full of energy!
I'm just in love :love :weee

Oh, they're absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!! As for the bands, you must take them off....Metzer's website still has the tape info, which could fall off on its own. The bands WILL NOT fall off on their own and you'll be shocked how quick those legs grow, making the band dicier to get off....I'm talking a couple days. Nail clippers work well when they're cuddled and asleep on you. Great start to bonding, have them out for short handling quite a bit form the get go and touch EVERYTHING! Feet, webs, bill, wings.....getting them used to being touched all over makes for MUCH easier health checks and such when they're big....in a couple short months!!!!!

Enjoy them, they are OUTSTANDING! Can't wait to watch them grow! Post lots of pics!

Thanks for your input on the band issue! Already off, took it off while they were sleeping. Ninja quick! :D didn't want to wait too long!

Interesting, I wonder when they switched to bands? They sent my goslings with tape earlier this year. Those bands look like the kind I use to mark females while I'm sexing. They stretch a ton so no cutting is needed, they can be stretched and taken off over the foot. Sounds like you got yours off fine though :)

Metzer really should change their site info though so people don't wait for those to fall off - they won't, and when the ducklings get bigger they'll cause lots of problems if they're not removed.

I agree. The website should be changed. But, all is good! Happy, band less ducklings.
