HI group, I took a few of our chickens eggs just to see what it is like to hatch a few of our own. I left them with the hen for two days in hopes she would go broody but no luck. First off is that too long to leave them sit in a nest with out incubating them? I now have them sitting in a box with a regular light bulb sitting over them. I turn the eggs about 3 to 4 times a day, is that enough? Is the light enough to get them warm enough to start the process of becoming a chick? The eggs are warm but not hot to the touch. I don't have any real understanding of high-tech incubator boxes, so would need help to understand what all I need to do. If there is a spot on this place that explains all this please let me know. God bless

Are your eggs fertile? Two days in the nest is fine.
I have heard of people hatching eggs under a bulb, but it sounds too complicated for me!
First off... what's the temp under the bulb? You really need to know the temp to have a successful hatch. Also, you need to have something to provide the eggs with humidity. With a hot lamp over them, the eggs will dry out.
The foam incubators that you can get at feed stores & farm stores aren't "high tech" at all. They're really simple to use & understand.
I would recommend buying a simple foam incubator if making your own seems too challenging.
