I have a hen that went broody and today her first chick hatched! The problem is, I think the other hens where still laying in the coop and she claimed those too. I saw the eggs and they’re definitely not all hers. So they were probably laid at random. I’m not sure how many eggs she’s sitting on, but there’s enough that she can’t sit on. Them all completely.

Will she continue to sit on them until they all hatch? I have water in the coop as well as feed.

Can our other two hens still be cooped with them at night?

Any advice is appreciated!

The only problem is I don’t have chick feed. She’s one of the “feral” chickens that decided she should live with us. Do you think the other two hens will hurt the chick? They’ve been sleeping separately since she got broody, so I’m assuming she’s pretty protective

After a few days she will leave her nest even if there are still viable eggs to care for her hatched chicks. I would candle her remaining eggs to see how they are developing. Any eggs that are early in development, dead, or duds, I would toss. Do you have an incubator as a backup in case she leaves without all the eggs hatching?

No incubator and I live on an island in Mexico. Getting to mainland for chick feed will take half a day. It is extremely hot and humid here though, high 80s with over 80%humidity. Is there a way to save any viable babies without one?
There’s another wild hen that comes into our yard that’s extremely broody. Unfortunately she decided to nest on top of our water heater (the eggs all fell behind it, extremely sad and messy) maybe if I set up a space for her she’ll “adopt” the eggs left behind?

One of our other hens is now sitting on the nest. The lone chick(no other babies yet) doesn’t seemed bothered by her. The mother hen is obviously irritated, but just puffed up and watching over her. So many questions lol
