We have a flock of mixed birds. They should start laying within the next month. Lately there have been tons of feathers every where but i figured it was because of the heat we have been having. Today I noticed all the birds are breathing through their mouths in a fairly shallow way, they have little energy, their wings are droopy and it seems it takes considerable strength to pull them up. When they lay down the kind of roll to the side so one foot pokes out and they fluff themselves up.

I made sure they had fresh water and food. We just moved them into a new coop two days ago and they seemed find. We disinfected the coop before moving them (it had been used to house a dog in about 10 years ago from what we understand). We have taken every precaution we can. We have been giving them medicated feed and they have a large run to play in.

Are they sick? Is this normal chicken behavior and I've just never seen it?

Hey, I have been doing a lot of research in the last couple of days because my birds are also sick. They have swollen faces and look jaundiced. They were also losing a lot of feathers, not eating, or drinking, and lethargic. Anyway, as I was researching I came across the specific symptoms you mention but I don't know what disease it was. Even the rolling to one side was mentioned. If I come across it again, I'll let you know. My vet thinks mine have mycoplasma and liver issues caused by the infection. They are looking better with antibiotics.

What have your temps been? What did you use to disinfect the coop?

Our temps have been mid to high 80's compared to the 60's we had up until last weekend. Not scorching by any means.

We used hot water, then bleach, then another hot water rinse followed with a high pressure cold water rinse. Plus we laid all new flooring in it so the only thing that was from before was the old wire, roofing, and supports.

I know mine kinda lay around like that when they get too hot, one in particular pants alot, sometimes in 80-mid 80s weather, maybe they are just adjusting to the heat, maybe try to cool them off and see if that helps. The bleach wash and rinse sounds fine, especially if they have new flooring. Maybe they need to be wormed, I know the medicated feed doesn't get everything.
