We have a flock of mixed birds. They should start laying within the next month. Lately there have been tons of feathers every where but i figured it was because of the heat we have been having. Today I noticed all the birds are breathing through their mouths in a fairly shallow way, they have little energy, their wings are droopy and it seems it takes considerable strength to pull them up. When they lay down the kind of roll to the side so one foot pokes out and they fluff themselves up.
I made sure they had fresh water and food. We just moved them into a new coop two days ago and they seemed find. We disinfected the coop before moving them (it had been used to house a dog in about 10 years ago from what we understand). We have taken every precaution we can. We have been giving them medicated feed and they have a large run to play in.
Are they sick? Is this normal chicken behavior and I've just never seen it?
