Newbie with question re: how much space chickens need

Hello!! I live in Phila and would like to know, when people say you need 3-5 sq ft for each chicken is that just the chicken house (mine is 3ft wide by 2ft by 2ft) or does it include the run? My run is 6ft long, 3 ft wide and 2ft tall. Do i have enough room for 4 chickens? The chicken house has two nesting boxes and one roost which is 2ft long which is about 6 inches off the floor. Is that enough room for 4 chickens to roost? Thanks for your help!

I would say you would be most comfortable with 2 chickens - could possibly squeeze 3 in there, but your coop/run is far too small for four.

I agree, you really only have room for 2 standard hens, maybe 3 if they are bantams.

I am more concerned about the house part where they nest and roost. I will let them free range during the day. How many chickens could fit in the chicken house part?

Thanks for your help! I'll just try two or three bantams....or do some remodeling of the present coop. Wish I had planned better! I really wanted 4, since we are a family of six! But our back yard is a small city plot, 35ft by 35 feet, and neighbors are right nearby.
