Welcome!!

I second the orpington recommendation. I chose them because they are supposed to be a good breed for newbies and so far I haven't been disappointed. They're sweet, friendly, and extremely docile. I was holding one the other day and I turned her on her side (one handed) to show my mom the undersides of my chicken's feet (we were having a conversation about perches & bumblefoot). My mom was astonished that my chicken was just laying on her side in my hand, calm as can be!

Definitely check out the predator thread. Just spend a little time on it each day, and within a week you'll have a really good understanding of what's out there stalking your chickens (AND how to deal with it). Very, very helpful!

Enjoy your new flock when you get them! Sounds like they'll fit right in on the farm!
